Note: Each month, The Rosy Blog highlights a different theme in our weekly posts. In April, our theme is the power of an organization’s Mission, Vision, and Values. We’ll provide a series of exercises to help you get started on drafting your own—and of course if you need some help, you can always give us a ring.

Way to go! You and your team knew when you founded that sitting down to talk out your Mission, Vision and Values would pay dividends down the road. And they have! Those three little messages are having a real impact on your business—internally and externally. Here are the stories you’ve been telling to your friends:

Your customers are checking “yes.” People love what you do—you do great work, after all—but they love why you do it just as much. Your brand has an emotional core that resonates with them, and the word on the street is that that next demographic you’re hoping to reach might really like you. Or (dare I say) like-like you. Oooooooh.

Annual planning meeting? More like Best. Meeting. Ever. You and your super-aligned (crafting a Mission, Vision and Values really got you on the same page!) advisory team sat down to plan for future years, and you asked yourselves “Are we serving our customers in the way our Mission promises? Are we living up to our Values? Are we aspiring to the future we want to create?” It wasn’t just crazy productive, it was crazy inspiring.

You found your tribe. Veteran and new employees alike are feeling like they found the place that they want to be, are motivated by what you’re trying to accomplish, and are always telling people how much they love working for someone who shares their values. No lie? Your peers are a little jealous of your low turnover rates.

Culture isn’t just something you find in a lab. You’re not just finding the right people—they’re flourishing. They work well together, are stepping into leadership roles, are helping each other to build their careers, and high-fives are fast becoming a second language around the office. That’s the difference a purpose-driven culture delivers: it grows both your business and your employees.

Okay, so we might be exaggerating a little. But if you’ve written your Mission, Vision and Values, some of this might sound familiar. If not, you might feel like you’re missing out—but don’t worry! We’ve got you covered.

We’ve gathered some simple workshop exercises to help you get started on writing a first draft of these tools. The first workshop, on writing your Mission statement, focuses on storytelling. When do you feel you’re at your best, as a company? Who are you serving, and how do you help them?

Let’s get started: MVV Workshop: What’s your Mission?
